Bibby Distribution to enter WMS software market

Warehouse management software for third-party users will be offered in the future by Bibby Distribution, one of the UK's leading logistics groups.

The development follows the acquisition by Bibby of full rights to Claws 2, the third-party warehouse management system it currently uses in its own business. This was developed by Data Driven Software, a specialist software firm, under a long-term deal with Bibby.

Among primary reasons cited by Bibby for the acquisition, it says it protects the group's investment to date and ensures the essential technical skills are available in-house. Bibby's IT director, Robert Lee describes the system as 'a cornerstone for our ongoing growth and development'.

However, Bibby says in due course it will also offer the system on the open market. It describes the software as 'a flexible but highly functional low-cost solution', and says it will gradually introduce further innovations in the product.

Following the acquisition, Bibby is building up its in-house development team, which will be located in a new facility in Stafford.
