Battery-electric power for UPS
UPS has started testing a Modec electric delivery van from its Camden depot in north London. It is describing the vehicle as the first of its kind to use high-energy batteries to deliver high urban delivery performance. We also think this is probably the first Modec van we've illustrated in full operator livery, even though we've been reporting on the range for several years. UPS has a long track record of using environment-friendly vehicles. It started in the 1930s with electric vehicles in New York City, and now claims to run largest privately-owned alternative fuel fleet in the entire transport industry (over 1,600 vehicles). They operate in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, the UK and the US. Power systems in use include hybrid electric, hybrid hydraulic, compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas and propane-powered vehicles.
Modec is a UK company based at Coventry in the Midlands.
